What is caregiver coaching?

Want to know what a caregiver coaching session looks like? This page walks you through the steps of a typical Stone Circle coaching session.

What can I expect in a caregiver coaching session?

Caregiver coaching at Stone Circle is a respectful, relationship-centered partnership designed for families with young children. Sessions focus on supporting parents and caregivers as they build skills, confidence, and understanding through their everyday routines.

This page explains what caregiver coaching looks like and how it supports your child’s development in real life.

🤝 Step 1: Joint Planning

We begin together.

At the start of each session, we talk about:

  • What you noticed since our last visit.

  • What felt successful and what felt hard.

  • What matters most to your family right now.

Together, we focus on a real-life routine of your choice: mealtime, bathtime, toothbrushing, reading aloud, play, getting dressed, or bedtime. Where do you want to infuse communication learning every day?

👀 Step 2: Observation

Real life, just as it is.

Your coach observes you and your child during the chosen routine. This helps us understand:

  • Your child’s strengths and interests.

  • How communication and learning are already happening.

  • What is working well in your natural interactions.

With your permission, your coach may model a strategy as an option. You choose the ones you want to see.

🛠️ Step 3: Action

You try it, with support.

During the session:

  • You practice new strategies in the moment, then modify with support.

  • Your coach offers gentle guidance, encouragement, and brainstorming.

  • Adjustments are made together so strategies fit your family.

The goal is for new communication strategies to feel doable and meaningful in your daily life.

💭 Step 4: Reflection

We pause and think together.

Before the session ends, we reflect on:

  • What felt natural, successful, or surprising

  • What you learned about your child and yourself

  • What you want to try next

Reflection helps turn everyday moments into learning opportunities.

💡 Step 5: Supportive Feedback

Information and refinement.

Your coach shares ideas, resources, and information tailored to your family’s goals. Feedback is collaborative, respectful, and grounded in your family’s priorities.

📝 Step 6: Joint Planning

A simple plan that fits your life.

We finish by:

  • Choosing what you want to try next.

  • Identifying routines where strategies make sense.

  • Scheduling the next session during your chosen routine.

Plans are simple, realistic, and designed to fit naturally into your daily life. Scheduling happens around your real life.
